I rescued Mallory from one of the nasty little D’Eath children. (The D’Eath family might be one of the wealthiest clans in Ashcourt but they have no idea how to raise children to respect the toys they are showered with.) It has taken many months of encouragement to persuade Mallory that ‘looks aren’t everything’. She is a slender wisp of a girl, gentle and kind….until her dark moods take hold of her. At that time I would advise placing her in a safe room and closing the door until she gains her self-control.
I gave Mallory a host of beautiful fabrics from which I would sew clothing for her – she chose the mourning dress that you see her adorned in now. I can only hope that whoever has the deep heart to adopt her will be able to one day persuade her to lift her veil and face the world, knowing she is the stronger for the torment she has endured.
